Spicy foods and giant pandas are the major reasons why people travel to Chengdu. The climate is wet in Chengdu. Local people believe eating spicy food can keep their body dry and healthy.

Giant pandas have been living in Chengdu for thousands of years. The bamboos on the mountains near the city of Chengdu are their favorite food. There are many panda bases near Chengdu, where tourists can work as a volunteer to prepare food and clean the cabins for pandas.

The best time to visit Chengdu
March to June and September to November are the best time to travel in the urban area, the weather during this time is comfortable. If you would like to travel to Chengdu in the sultry summer or cold winter, it is recommended to travel to the surrounding places such as Qingcheng Mountain, Dujiangyan, Tiantai Mountain and Jiuzhaigou.

Some plateau areas, such as Daocheng Yading, are popular destinations for shooting excellent photos and hiking during spring and autumn.

Dressing guide
The temperate difference between spring and autumn is significant, so you’d better bring a windbreaker to prevent colds. In the sweltering summer, you’d better wear thin clothes and carry mosquito repellent with you to prevent mosquitoes. The temperature in winter is usually between 0-10 degrees centigrade, the air will be wet and cold in rainy days, so it is suggested to wear thick clothes.
